HET HOOFDDIER DAT ROOFT

- Work In Progress -
Duration: 7-10 min

Research on  nature vs nurture. Exploring vs restrictions and the evolving effect.

Materials:
Buckets 2x, Rope 2x, Every day life objects: pan, brush, plunger, sponge, drain tube, etc.

Description from the eyes of the audience:
(I) When sitting down, Berendine (B) is not present. Then, some metal clanging sounds emerge, rhythmically. Slowly entering the room, B has a black metal bucket on her head with a hanging rope, attached from the inside. With this rope she hits the bucket in repeated action. Crescendo in movement and sounds, until the bucket is thrown off on the ground.

(II) This reveals a second bucket on B's head; smaller and silver and another rope attached and dangling. One moment of adjustment to this new situation, B slowly grabs the rope and hits the bucket the same manner as before. Uneven at first, more firm later on.

(III) Attention is put on the objects lying around; B picks them up one by one, and explores what sound they make on the bucket. Each object makes a different sound and can be manipulated differently. Each used object is hung around B's neck. A crescendo in objects used, switched and hung around the neck, forming a heavy necklace. Rapidly all objects are tried to be used simultaneously, increasing the speed and volume of sounds created, until everything is thrown off, including the bucket on the head. All objects are very rapidly tried to be put inside the bucket, turned over and B throws herself on top of this little pile.

(IV) Lying on top, B stays there for a little while. Slowly rising, sitting on her knees, B grabs the small silver bucket and puts it on her belly in between her legs. She starts caressing the bucket in circular motions. Starting to hum a lullaby-melody, first with lips sealed, then with open mouth, while continuing to caress the bucket. The performance ends with B uttering the words:
"No, said the mother to the child. The child stood up and walked away", and pushing the bucket forward on the ground.
